Program Details

The Intel® Higher Education Program in India brings cutting edge technology expertise to leading universities and scientific and technological institutes across the country. For the last 15 years, we have been consistently collaborating with academia and are instrumental in implementing innovative programs in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other reputed technology and research institutions.

So far, Intel’s Higher Education programs have reached out to nearly 3.10 Lakh students, over 5,000 faculty members and 1,200 technical institutions.

As the technology world is rapidly growing, especially in the areas of computing, electronics design and applications, connectivity and mobility, it is imperative that our faculty are empowered with the latest industry knowledge and insights on cutting edge technology trends. The Forum is exclusively for selected faculty from engineering institutions across India.

Accommodation

All meals and accommodation of the participants will be taken care of at Hotel JW Marriot, New Delhi. Recommended itinerary is check-in on October 7th and check-out on October 9th. On prior request, we can arrange for a check out on October 10th (before 12:00 PM).

Local Travel

Hotel JW Marriot will arrange for airport transfers in New Delhi for participants arriving by Air. Participants taking other modes of transport need to make their own travel arrangements.

Inter-city Travel

Participants have to make their own travel arrangements from their home location to New Delhi and back to their home location. A certificate of attendance for all participating faculty will be provided.

Dr. Achintya (Achin) Bhowmik is the Vice President and General Manager of the Perceptual Computing Group at Intel Corporation. He leads the development and deployment of interactive computing technologies and products, based on natural sensing, intuitive interfaces, immersive applications and user experiences, branded as Intel® RealSense™ Technology. He previously led the development of advanced video and display processing technologies for Intel's computing products. His prior work also includes micro-display technologies and electro-optical devices.

Dr. Bhowmik is on the executive committee of the Society for Information Display (SID). He is also the Vice President of SID Americas and a senior member of the IEEE. He also serves on the board of directors for OpenCV, the organization behind the open source computer vision library.

Dr. Gopichand Katragadda

Group Chief Technology Officer and Innovation Head

Dr. Gopichand (Gopi) Katragadda, is the Group Chief Technology Officer and Innovation Head for Tata Sons. In this role, Gopi drives technology and innovation for the Tata conglomerate by leveraging cross-company synergies. He is a Director on the boards of Tata Elxsi, Tata Communications, Tata Teleservices, Tata Autocomp Systems and Flisom AG.

Dr. Katragadda is a part of industry bodies including CII and NASSCOM in India. He chairs the India Development Panel and is the India Chair for the technology track of the Indo-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee which facilitates negotiations among governments on market liberalization. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology, a GE Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt, and on the India Council for the Anita Borg Institute. Dr. Katragadda has over 5 patents. He holds MS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University, Iowa.

Intel Corporation

Dr. Pradeep Dubey is an Intel Fellow and Director of the Parallel Computing Lab, a part of the Intel Labs organization at Intel Corporation. Since 2003, he has led the state-of-the-art research in highly parallel computing. Dubey and his team are charged with defining computer architectures that can efficiently handle new computer-intensive and data-intensive application paradigms for future computing environments, and deriving product differentiation opportunities for Intel multi-core and many-core platforms.

Throughout his career, Dubey has made significant contributions to the design, architecture and application performance of various microprocessors, including the IBM PowerPC®, the Intel386™, Intel486™, Intel® Pentium® Processors, Intel Xeon® Processors, and Intel® MIC Architecture line of processors. He holds more than 30 patents.

In 2012, Dubey was honored with an Intel Achievement Award for breakthroughs in parallel computing research. Dubey earned a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology, India; a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst; and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. He was named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2001 for his contributions to computer architecture supporting multimedia processing.

Kumud Srinivasan

Kumud Srinivasan

Kumud Srinivasan is responsible for the general management of Intel's operations in India, leading cross functional organizations to ensure high quality site operations. She owns the management of R&D units in India with a focus on culture, employee hiring and retention, management and technical leadership development, employee compensation, training and employee communication, and overall organizational health. She drives the strategic planning of engineering assignments, and ensures execution. She partners with organizations to drive Intel’s market success in India, and to lead and implement strategy for engagements with the Government, Academia and Industry. She leads local market innovation opportunities that can strategically help Intel’s business in India.

Previously, Srinivasan led the engineering and delivery of IT solutions and services for Intel's hardware and software engineers. Srinivasan joined Intel in 1987 and has held leadership roles in Manufacturing and IT, involving industrial automation, digital transformation, business growth, external partnerships, and site operations, across Intel’s global footprint.

Srinivasan is Chairperson of the National Institute of Technology, Trichy. She serves on the Executive Council of FICCI, India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), and the India Council of the Anita Borg Institute. She is member of the governing body of IIIT-Bangalore, and the Board of Advisors of the School of Information Studies in Syracuse University.

Kumud Srinivasan

Dr. U.B. Desai

IIT Hyderabad

Dr. U.B. Desai serves as the director of IIT Hyderabad. He is also a senior member of IEEE and a Fellow of Indian National Science Academy (INSA) and Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE). He is on the board of Tata Communications Limited. His research interests are in wireless communications, IoT and statistical signal processing. He is the recipient of J. C. Bose Fellowship and the Excellence in Teaching Award from IIT-Bombay for 2007.

Dr. Desai received his B.Tech degree from IIT Kanpur in 1974, MS degree from the State University of New York, Buffalo, in 1976, and PhD from The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA in 1979, in Electrical Engineering.

Dr. Abhay Karandikar

Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering
IIT Bombay

Dr. Abhay Karandikar is a Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Bombay where he is currently spearheading efforts to establish a Research Park. He is the coordinator of TTSL IITB Center for Excellence in Telecommunications, where he has initiated many projects in the area of broadband wireless networks. He is also heading the National Center of Excellence in Technology for Internal Security. Dr. Karandikar has 5 US patents issued and several patents pending.

Dr. Karandikar has won numerous awards including the Excellence in Teaching Award at IIT Bombay in 2006 and 2011, the VASVIK Industrial Research Award in 2010, the NASI-Reliance Industries Platinum Jubilee Awards in 2012, Dr Vikram Sarabhai Research Awards in 2010, Prof. S. V. Aiya Memorial Award for the year 2005-06 by SVC Aiya Trust Pune, Prof. K. Srinivasan Award for the year 2005-06 by IETE and the Dr. P.K. Patwardhan Technology Development Award.

Prof. Kiran K. Kuchi

Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering

Prof. Kiran K. Kuchi has been associated with the wireless industry since 1997. His current research interests include signal processing algorithms for communications, wireless networks, network MIMO systems, cross-layer optimization and development of experimental test-beds for 5G systems and Next-Generation Cloud-Based Radio Access Networks.

Prof. Kuchi has led several research projects on the development of WiMAX and LTE standards where he contributed to many patents. He has also previously developed baseband modem algorithms for GSM/EDGE, WiMAX, and LTE systems. He completed his MS in Electronic Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) in December, 1997. He currently serves as the Chairman of Wireless Systems Study Group-1 of TSDSI.

Dr. Debabrata Das

Dean & Professor, Academics and R&D
IIIT-Bangalore

Dr. Debabrata Das serves as Dean of Academics and R&D, Professor, and Hewlett Packard Chair at IIIT-Bangalore. He is the Principal Investigator (PI) of a project on Green Broadband Wireless Network in the Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, and co-PI of a project from Microsoft on TVWS.

His main areas of research interest are wireless access network's MAC, QoS, power saving and IP Multimedia Subsystems. His areas of teaching interest are wireless access network, mobile computing with IMS, IoT and internetworking. He has 7 patents under review.

Dr. Das received his PhD degree from IIT Kharagpur. He is Chairman of the IT Service Management Forum, India (itSMF); Member of Cyber Crime Committee, Ministry of Home, Govt. of India; Technical and Empower Committee member of e-Governance committee, Govt. of Karnataka; Board Member of IT Dept. Govt. of Odisha. Dr. Das is Vice Chairman of the IEEE Bangalore Section. He is General Chair of IEEE International Conference CONECCT-2015. He is also a recipient of Global IEEE MGA Achievement Award 2012.

Dr. Vipin Tyagi

Executive Director, C-DOT

Dr. Vipin Tyagi heads C-DOT as the Executive Director & Chairman of the Board by engaging in the development of various projects at the frontier of telecom technology in areas such as optical communications, next generation networks and wireless technologies. Tyagi is playing an important role in ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’ programs launched by the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India. He is also innovating digital communication infrastructure required for smart cities and smart buildings.

Dr. Tyagi is an innovator and a business leader in the Information Technology and Telecommunication industry for over 3 decades. He has actively worked towards the R&D of large systems, organizational development and creation of high performance teams.

Dr. Kumar N. Sivarajan

Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Tejas Networks

Dr. Kumar N. Sivarajan is the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Tejas Networks. He is responsible for guiding the technology and product direction of Tejas Networks.

Dr. Sivarajan is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, an Associate of the Indian Academy of Sciences and a recipient of the Swarnajayanti Fellowship from the Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Science & Technology. He is also the Chairman, Founding Member and Governing Council Member of the Telecom Standards Development Organization, TSDSI, India, which aims to help create manufacturing expertise in India.

He is also a recipient of the 2004 Global Indus Technovator Award from the India Business Club at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Charles LeGeyt Fortescue Fellowship and the Baker Prize Paper Award from IEEE. Dr. Sivarajan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Technology in Electrical Engineering from IIT Madras and a Doctorate from the California Institute of Technology.

Bala Santhanam

Bala Santhanam is a Principal Engineer and Platform Architect at Internet of Things Group, Intel India. He has been driving innovations in the Internet of Things with an incubated group and has brought out an IoT connected health solution in the market.

Santhanam is responsible for driving system/software architecture for Intel’s IoT products and solutions, addressing many verticals like health care and automotive telematics. He has more than 14 years of experience in data networking and embedded software in the cellular wireless domain. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Bharathiar University.

Dr. Karwar Jit Singh

Vice President of Technology,
Tejas Networks

Dr. Kanwar Jit Singh is the Vice President of Technology in Tejas Networks, a leading Indian telecommunication product company focused on optical networks. He is a part of the team that’s setting the technology strategy.

Dr. Singh holds a PhD from the University of California at Berkeley in the area of VLSI CAD and was a Gold Medalist from IIT Kanpur in 1986 while pursuing his B.Tech degree. He has worked on CAD systems for formal verification and also designed several trend-setting VLSI devices such as the world's first single-chip Color CMOS video camera, a multi-processor DSP and a classification ASIC for Routers.

Murali Narasimhan

Deputy General Manager, Electronics and Product Management

Murali Narasimhan is the Deputy General Manager for Electronics Product Development and Product Management at Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Pvt. Limited, Bangalore. He has served various roles and market segments with consumer, industrial and energy business units. His current activities involve developing innovative products and solutions in consumer and industrial segments with a horizontal focus in the areas of IoT enabled smart devices, remote monitoring/control systems, electronics R&D, manufacturing, and pollution monitoring

He has previously developed new products for the Indian defense market. His experience has spanned multiple disciplines covering Systems Engineering, Product Engineering, R&D and Sales in multiple domains. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation and Electronics and has 18 years of industry experience.

Dr. Dattatraya Kulkarni

Software Technologist, Engineer Manager

Dr. Dattatraya (Kulki) Kulkarni is a seasoned software technologist and a passionate engineering manager with 25 years of experience in creating and delivering software products across the spectrum such as IoT, wearables, mobile, PCs, the Web and, enterprise and system softwares. He brings a unique combination of acumen in business, strategy, creativity, and technology.

He co-founded an Intel internal start-up called Mash Maker – a Web3.0 service that was years ahead of the industry. He is a recognized thought leader within McAfee and Intel. He has created user-centric technologies, concepts, and products that have significantly improved consumer experience and confidence with new devices and digital lifestyles. He has a PhD from the University of Toronto, an MS from IIT Chennai, and a BE from NIT Surathkal.

Prof. Swapna Banerjee

Visiting Professor
IIT Kharagpur

Prof. Swapna Banerjee is a Visiting Professor in the Department of Electronics and ECE at IIT Kharagpur. Her research efforts comprised designing VLSI chips for embedded low-cost, low-power biomedical systems with the facility of intelligent adaptive control for automated therapeutic purpose. She has developed a non-invasive blood-glucose measuring system using photoacoustic spectroscopy with which the continuous monitoring of glucose is now possible. Dr. Banerjee has received the prestigious Matsumae International Foundation Award from Japan in 1985. She is the Fellow at the Institution of Engineers, India and senior member of IEEE.

Prof. Banerjee was awarded the Post-Doctoral fellowship from Tokyo University, Japan and a PhD degree in 1981 from the Department of Electronics and ECE at the IIT Kharagpur. She completed her B.E. degree (1971) and M.E. (1974) from the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering in Jadavpur University.

Dr. Mohanasankar Sivaprakasam

Dr. Mohanasankar Sivaprakasam is a Faculty for Electrical Engineering and Director of the Healthcare Technology Innovation Centre (HTIC), a R&D center, at IIT Madras.

Dr. Sivaprakasam’s focus is to develop affordable medical technologies in the country. Since 2009, he has successfully built an ecosystem of technologists, clinicians and industry, culminating in the setting up of Healthcare Technology Innovation Centre (HTIC) in 2011. Over the years, HTIC has grown into a unique, leading med-tech innovation ecosystem in the country. More than 20 medical institutions, industry and government agencies are collaborating with HTIC in developing affordable medical technologies for unmet healthcare needs.

Dr. Rudra Pratap

Professor & Chairperson, Centre for Nano Science & Engineering
Associate Faculty, IISc Bangalore

Dr. Rudra Pratap is a Professor and the Chairperson of the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE), and an associate faculty of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IISc, Bangalore. Dr. Pratap specializes in NEMS design and MEMS device developments that include MEMS microphones, ultrasound transducers and inertial systems. He is keenly interested in MEMS based energy harvesting technologies. His other research interests include nonlinear dynamics, mechanobiology, and computational mechanics.

Dr. Pratap holds a PhD degree from Cornell University, USA, a Master’s degree from the University of Arizona, USA, and a B.Tech from IIT, Kharagpur, India. He is a member of the Vision Group on Nanotechnology of Karnataka State. He is currently an Associate Editor of the IEEE Journal of MEMS, USA, and the Journal of ISSS, India. Dr. Pratap is a Fellow of the National Academy of Engineering.

Prof. Dhrubes Biswas

Professor, Electronics, Engineering Entrepreneurship

Prof. Dhrubes Biswas is the Professor of Electronics and Engineering Entrepreneurship at IIT, Kharagpur. He has created a vibrant student-driven entrepreneurial ecosystem at IIT with unique undergraduate and graduate programs in addition to 65 on-campus start-ups.

Prof. Biswas has made fundamental contributions to PHEMT process based Ka-Band Power Amplifier MMICs, Switch MMICs and InGaP HBT process based Power Amplifier MMICs for GSM cellular handsets. He has championed advanced research in Beyond Moore’s electronic and optical devices in Metamorphic HEMT/ HBT and SiGe devices at IIT in compound semiconductors, primarily in the integration of III-V electronics/optical front-end devices on silicon for high performance systems. Prof. Biswas completed his PhD and MS from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and B.Tech degree from IIT Kharagpur.

Prof. Sourangshu Bhattacharya

Dr. Bipin Rajendran

Dr. Bipin Rajendran is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Bombay. He was previously engaged in exploratory research on non-volatile memory and Neuromorphic Computation. His current research focuses on building algorithms and systems for brain-inspired computing. He has published 45 peer-reviewed papers and has been issued 50 US patents.

Dr. Rajendran received his B.Tech degree in 2000 from IIT Kharagpur. He completed his MS in 2003 and his PhD in 2006 in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Prof. Partha Pratim Talukdar

Prof. Talukdar is broadly interested in machine learning, natural language processing, and cognitive neuroscience, with a particular focus on large-scale learning and inference. Prof. Talukdar received his PhD in CIS from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010, working under the supervision of Fernando Pereira, Zack Ives, and Mark Liberman.

Prof. Varma is the CEO of IIIT Hyderabad Foundation, which runs one of the largest technology incubators in India. The foundation manages IIIT-H’s IP and technology transfers. Dr. Saumyadip Pyne

Dr. Pyne’s research interests include Big Data in life sciences and health informatics, computational statistics and high-dimensional Data Modeling. He is a member of the Program Developing and Advisory Committee of the Big Data Initiative of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Dr. Pyne received his doctorate from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in USA. Dr. Sandeep Sen

Dr. Sandeep Sen is a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in IIT Delhi. He has conducted research in a variety of algorithmic areas including randomized data-structures, dynamic graph algorithms, approximate shortest path problems, cache-efficient techniques, geometric optimization problems and clustering algorithms. Several of his algorithms are among some of the best known literature. Dr Sen was the recipient of AICTE career award (1998) and IBM Faculty Partnership award (2004, 2005)

Dr. Sen received his B.Tech degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 1984, MS from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1986 and a PhD from Duke University in 1989.

Prof. Balaraman Ravindran

Prof. Balaraman Ravindran is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at IIT Madras. He has nearly two decades of research experience in machine learning and specifically, in reinforcement learning. Currently his research interests span across data mining, social network analysis, and reinforcement learning.

Prof. Ravindran is the Co-Director of the Reconfigurable and Intelligent Systems Engineering (RISE) Group at IIT Madras. He also heads the Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Data Sciences at IIT Madras. He has served as the General Co-Chair of the 2015 Big Data Summit at Sydney. Prof. Ravindran received Yahoo! Faculty research gifts in 2009 and 2014 to work on mining real-world text data and unrestricted research gifts from KLA Tencor in 2014 and 2015.

Prof. Anand Raghunathan

Distinguished Visiting Chair in Computational Brain Research, IIT Madras

Prof. Anand Raghunathan is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Chair of the VLSI area at Purdue University, where he directs research in the Integrated Systems Laboratory. He is also a Distinguished Chair in Computational Brain Research at IIT Madras.

Prof. Raghunathan’s publications have received eight best paper awards and five best paper nominations. He received a Patent of the Year Award and two Technology Commercialization Awards from NEC, and was chosen among the MIT TR35 (top 35 innovators under 35 years across various disciplines of science and technology) in 2006.

He received the IEEE Meritorious Service Award and Outstanding Service Award. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and Golden Core Member of the IEEE Computer Society. Prof. Raghunathan received his B.Tech degree from IIT Madras, and MA and PhD degrees from Princeton University.
